News from the Den- May 2, 2025

Our neighbourhood geese sometimes line up at the doors too!

We have so many amazing volunteers at our school! Each and every week our school is bustling with people lending a helping hand in so many ways. Even though this last week was a short week, we had volunteers to coach Run Club, Track Team and Badminton. We also had people shelving books in the library, reading with students and delivering popsicles to our whole school.

We are so grateful for each and every volunteer! We want to recognize all of our volunteers for their time and energy that they invest into our school. We hope that you can join us this Friday for our Volunteer Tea @ 2:30 p.m. in the library. We will have some light refreshments and musical performances by several groups.

Thanks for all you do! You help to make HHE a better place!

INFORMATION

THANK YOU! Bus Driver Appreciation Day is May 5
Join us on May 5 as we recognize and thank our school bus operators for keeping the safety of our students their first priority. We encourage you, and your children, to take a moment to say thanks to our bus operators—who go above and beyond to provide safe and timely transportation to our students.

On behalf of Heritage Hills Elementary THANK YOU to all of our school bus operators for a job well done.

Mental Health Awareness Week
Next week (May 5-9) is Mental Health Awareness Week. We will be focusing the importance of caring for our mental health in our classes and throughout the school. We will be listening to morning announcements that have read alouds about mental health and strategies for self-regulation modelled for students to practice. We will also have a Coyote Compliment Board posted where staff and students are encouraged to share some positives. On Wednesday, May 7 is Hats on for Mental Health where students and staff wear their favourite or funky hats to bring awareness to the importance of good mental health.

Values In Action- Integrity
In May, HHE is focusing on the value of Integrity—doing the right thing even when no one is watching.
At school, students are learning how honesty, responsibility, and making good choices help build strong character. You can continue these conversations at home with a few simple prompts and activities that highlight this important value:

Try These at Home:

  • Talk About What They’ve Seen at School:
    Ask:
    • “Have you seen a classmate do the right thing, even when no one told them to?”
    • “Can you think of a time when someone was honest about a mistake? How was that handled?”
    • “What does integrity look like at recess or in the hallways?”

  • Share a Family Story:
Tell a story about a time you or someone in your family made a tough but honest choice, and how it made a difference.

  • Create an “Integrity Challenge” for the Week:
As a family, choose one way everyone will practice integrity for the week—like returning something that doesn’t belong to you, being honest even when it’s hard, or standing up for what’s right. Reflect at the end of the week on how it went!

Thank you for supporting our efforts to help students grow into kind, courageous, and trustworthy young people. Together, we’re making a difference!

Did you know?
Each school has a School Education Plan on its website. Annually, these plans are updated for the next school year to reflect schools’ goals, strategies and measures—all based on priorities found in the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan. School administration update their plans after reviewing school-specific results from the EIPS Annual Feedback Survey and consulting with staff, families and school councils in April. A School Education Plan helps a school community focus on what’s most important in its own specific context from year to year. To view your child’s School Education Plan, visit your school’s website and find the relevant home page block.
